South University Receives Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Accreditation for its MSN Program

SAVANNAH, Ga. – November 19, 2007 – The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has granted accreditation of a master’s degree program in Nursing at South University-West Palm Beach.

In a November 12, 2007 letter, CCNE notified officials at South University that accreditation was approved for a full five years. CCNE is the national accrediting body for nursing education programs.

“CCNE accreditation is a respected standard for baccalaureate and graduate nursing schools across the nation,” said Priscilla Bartolone, Chair of the Department of Nursing, School of Health Professions at South University. “We are very proud of the growth and development of our Nursing program,” she added.

CCNE is an arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the only national organization dedicated exclusively to furthering baccalaureate and graduate nursing education.

Dr. O. Joseph Harm, Vice President for Academic Affairs at South University, congratulated the Nursing department. “This 5-year accreditation is a significant achievement for our faculty, staff and students. By passing the most rigorous accreditation standards, it demonstrates a commitment to our Nursing program and healthcare in our country.”

South University’s Master of Science in Nursing degree program (MSN), is the institution’s fourth graduate degree program offered online. The program is designed for the registered nurse (RN) who already has a BSN degree and is interested in additional Nursing education.

The master’s degree program consists of 12 courses totaling 48 quarter hours enabling students to complete the program in less than two years. Students complete courses during five-and-one-half week sessions. The program features integrated practical experiences, a practicum in nursing education, and a final project to assess learning outcomes. The online degree program permits those individuals working full-time to continue their education while meeting their demanding schedules.

“The Master of Science in Nursing program is designed for Registered Nurses who want to pursue a Master’s degree in nursing education” said Bartolone.
