The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree completion program at South University is designed for registered nurses who wish to become more proficient in their field and focus on the delivery of patient care. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, "Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow 23 percent from 2006 to 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations. Generally, RNs with at least a bachelor's degree will have better job prospects than those without a bachelor's. In addition, all four advanced practice specialties — clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, nurse-midwives, and nurse anesthetists — will be in high demand, particularly in medically underserved areas such as inner cities and rural areas. Relative to physicians, these RNs increasingly serve as lower-cost primary care providers."

Academic Requirements

To be admitted to South University’s online RN to BSN degree completion program, prospective students must meet the following requirements:

1. Completion of all general education requirements with a grade of C or higher in specified courses.
2. ASN or diploma graduate of an accredited nursing program.
3. Overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in all nursing college work attempted.
4. Evidence of a current, unencumbered RN license in the state of clinical practice.

Note: Provisional admission may be granted for an overall GPA of 2.0 to 2.49 on a 4.0 scale. Final admission requires completion of at least four general education courses with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
